Bark beetle burb

This painting is an enlargement of the pattern made by bark beetle larvae on the surface of a piece of firewood, under the bark. You can trace their progress from hatching and making tiny channels (“galleries” I believe is the correct term) as they eat their way along, to emerging as adults where the track terminates with a blunt end. Circles (holes) are where adult females have bored into the tree to lay their eggs.
The challenge was to represent the pattern as accurately as possible while making each section as different as possible.
